AVE HITS GSIS BANK DEAL...

Rep. Eulogio “Amang” Magsaysay of the Alliance of Volunteer Educators (AVE) party-list group assailed the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) for forgoing a contract with private bank to release the monthly pension of retired government workers.

Magsaysay, whose AVE party-list is running for re-election in the coming May 14 polls, said the retired teachers, particularly in the provinces, have complained of difficulty in withdrawing their pensions from Union Bank of the Philippines (UBP) that has few branches and automated teller machines (ATMs) in the country, especially in rural areas.

“Why was UBP selected by GSIS? Why did they not just let Land Bank of the Philippines handle the release of the pensions since Land Bank is also the one that issues the salaries of government workers?” Magsaysay asked.
